Drug peddler arrested with 6kg opium in Daltonganj

Major Drug Bust at Daltonganj Railway Station

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Palamu police arrested a 22-year-old drug peddler and seized over 6 kilograms of opium valued at approximately ₹32 lakh in the international market. The operation took place on the Daltonganj railway station road during the early hours of Thursday, marking a substantial victory for law enforcement in the region.

How the Operation Unfolded

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Palamu police launched an extensive vehicle checking drive near the Daltonganj railway station. Police Superintendent Reeshma Ramesan revealed that the operation was meticulously planned based on a credible tip-off about drug transportation in the area.

"Our team intercepted a suspicious vehicle and questioned the driver during the routine check," stated SP Ramesan. "During the thorough search of the vehicle, we discovered six separate packets, each containing approximately one kilogram of high-quality opium."

The Accused and His Criminal Background

The arrested individual has been identified as Abhishek Kumar, aged 22, who hails from Bandua Shahpur village under the Chainpur police station jurisdiction. Investigation revealed that Kumar is not new to criminal activities and has been previously involved in multiple cases.

According to police records, Kumar is a history sheeter with previous charges including assault in public places and cheating cases registered against him in West Bengal. The current narcotics case adds a serious dimension to his criminal portfolio.

Drug Trafficking Route and Seasonal Patterns

Police investigations indicate that the seized consignment originated from Chatra district and was destined for either Punjab or Rajasthan, states known for high demand in illicit drugs. This interception has potentially disrupted a major interstate drug smuggling network.

Law enforcement officials noted an interesting pattern in drug trafficking activities. Illicit trading of opium typically increases with the onset of winter months, making this timely bust particularly significant in preventing further distribution.

Legal Actions and Recent Drug Seizures

Abhishek Kumar has been formally charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries severe penalties including lengthy imprisonment for those convicted of drug trafficking offenses.

This arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on drug-related activities in the region. In recent weeks, local police have made multiple significant seizures including marijuana and brown sugar, indicating an intensified campaign against narcotics trade in Jharkhand.

The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-based policing and has been hailed as a major achievement in the ongoing war against drug trafficking in eastern India.
