Decapitated Body of Missing Man Found in Dumka Village, Police Launch Investigation
The decapitated body of a 35-year-old man, who had been missing since late last week, was recovered in a village under the Rikhia police station limits of Deoghar district on Monday night. The deceased, identified as Dilip Kumar Turi, was found near a pond in Thadi village, sparking shock and outrage in the local community.
Family Reports Missing Person, Body Discovered with Gruesome Injuries
Turi's family reported him missing three days prior and had lodged an official missing report on the same day. His body was identified based on his clothing, but the scene revealed a horrific crime. The victim's crushed skull was found nearly 20 feet away from the body, while the lower jaw remained attached. Police officials suspect that the assailants may have disfigured Turi's face in an attempt to conceal his identity, adding a layer of brutality to the incident.
Evidence Points to Struggle and Intoxication Before Murder
Injury marks on Turi's hands indicate that he likely struggled with his attackers before being killed. Authorities recovered an empty liquor bottle, three water bottles, plastic glasses, and a car key from the crime scene. Based on this evidence, both locals and police suspect that Turi was intoxicated at the time of the attack, which may have preceded his beheading.
Sub-divisional police officer Ashok Kumar Singh and Prabhat Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Rikhia police station, arrived at the scene on Tuesday. They conducted an extensive search operation within a 200-meter radius, but no significant breakthroughs were made. A forensic team and a dog squad were deployed to collect samples and scan the surrounding area for additional clues.
"We are examining nearby CCTV footage to trace the accused. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem at Deoghar Sadar Hospital," stated the officer-in-charge, highlighting ongoing efforts to solve the case.
Family and Locals Protest Police Inaction, Disrupt Traffic
In response to the murder, family members and local residents staged a protest at Baidyanathpur Chowk on Tuesday, carrying Turi's body for two hours. The demonstration disrupted traffic as participants burnt tyres and raised slogans against the police and district administration, demanding justice and faster action in the investigation.
