Elderly Shopkeeper Falls Victim to Fake Police Officer in Tiruttani

An elderly man in Tiruttani faced a terrifying robbery on Sunday night. The incident involved a man pretending to be a police officer. This impostor stole cash and jewellery from the victim.

Details of the Deceptive Crime

Munusamy, a 72-year-old resident of Periyar Nagar, runs a small shop in the area. On Sunday evening, he visited the market near the bus stand. He went there to buy supplies for his petty shop.

An unidentified man arrived on a motorcycle at the market. He introduced himself as a police officer. The fake cop told Munusamy he needed to question him about a complaint.

Trusting the man's authority, the elderly shopkeeper got onto the motorcycle. The suspect then drove him to a secluded stretch on the Arakkonam-Thanigai Polur road.

The Robbery and Aftermath

At the isolated location, the impostor threatened Munusamy. He robbed the elderly man of 3,000 rupees in cash. The thief also took a gold ring weighing approximately 7 grams.

After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene on his motorcycle. Local police have registered a case based on the complaint. Officers are actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend the culprit.

This case highlights concerns about criminals impersonating law enforcement. It serves as a warning for citizens, especially the elderly, to verify credentials before complying with such requests.
