A sudden and unexplained explosion shook the vicinity of the Nalagarh police station in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the local area. The powerful blast occurred near the boundary wall of the police station, causing significant damage to windowpanes in multiple buildings but, fortunately, resulting in no injuries or major structural collapse.
Scene of the Incident and Immediate Aftermath
The incident took place at precisely 9:40 am, creating a loud blast that shattered glass in a wide radius. Windows of the police station itself, an Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinic, an Army canteen, and several other nearby structures were blown out. The force of the explosion was felt up to 45 meters away, indicating a significant release of energy at the point of origin.
Police Investigation and Forensic Probe
Senior police officials, including Baddi Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhiman, swiftly arrived at the site to assess the situation. Forensic science experts were deployed to the spot to meticulously collect samples for analysis. SP Dhiman addressed the public, stating that the exact cause of the blast would only be determined after a detailed chemical analysis and expert reports are received. He urged citizens not to panic but to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
An extensive review of CCTV footage from various locations within and around the affected radius is underway to trace any unusual movements or persons. Preliminary findings, however, have not pointed towards an explosive device or a deliberate act of mischief. The police confirmed that no threat calls or emails were received prior to or after the incident.
Possible Cause and Past Precedents
While the investigation is ongoing, police are considering negligence by scrap dealers as a possible line of inquiry. SP Vinod Dhiman noted that scrap and waste materials are often found in the area, and past episodes suggest such negligence could be a cause. He referenced a similar incident in Nalagarh where paint was thrown into a fire, causing an explosion that injured two people. "Scrap dealers sometimes carry out such negligent acts, and police register cases against them and take further legal action," he added.
To prevent future occurrences, SP Dhiman stated he would issue strict instructions to all scrap dealers in the region. They will be directed to adhere to all legally mandated safety precautions to ensure such incidents do not lead to loss of life or property.
