Family Demands Action After Tragic Drain Death in Greater Noida
A young man lost his life in a heartbreaking incident in Greater Noida. His family now accuses the administration of gross negligence. They believe timely intervention could have saved him.
The Fatal Night and Family's Anguish
The accident happened on the night of January 16-17. It occurred under the Knowledge Park police station's jurisdiction. A car broke through the boundary of a drain at the Sector 150 intersection. The vehicle plunged into the water.
The victim has been identified as Yuvraj. He was a 27-year-old resident of Sector-150 in Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar. His father, Rajkumar Mehta, shared harrowing details.
"My son struggled in the water for nearly two hours," Mehta said. "He was crying out for help. Most people just watched. Some even made videos. The officials present could not save him. They lacked divers. This shows clear negligence."
The family demands strict action. They want improved safety arrangements to prevent future tragedies.
Rescue Efforts and Official Response
Rescue operations began immediately. Teams used fire brigade ladders, cranes, searchlights, and a makeshift boat. However, visibility was near zero at the time. This complicated the efforts.
Search and rescue teams from SDRF and NDRF eventually recovered the body. It has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Joint commissioner of police Rajeev Narain Mishra called the incident "very tragic." He stated that the police stand with the victim's family.
Satish Pal, additional chief executive officer of the Noida Authority, addressed the issue. "An investigation is underway," he said. "It will determine whose land this was, who it was allotted to, and who maintained it. The road is in an area that is not yet fully developed. We will take action after the inquiry."
Calls for Accountability and Safety
This incident highlights critical safety concerns in developing urban areas. The family's allegations point to a need for better emergency preparedness.
Local residents are now questioning administrative protocols. They want assurances that such lapses will not recur.
The investigation by Noida Authority will be crucial. It must establish responsibility and lead to concrete safety measures.
