Family Alleges 'Blade Mafia' Role in Couple's Deaths After Loan Threats in Wayanad
Family Blames 'Blade Mafia' for Couple's Deaths in Wayanad

Family Files Police Complaint Over Couple's Tragic Deaths in Wayanad

The family of Reshma, a woman from Wayanad, has lodged a formal police complaint. They allege that a so-called 'blade mafia' played a role in the deaths of both Reshma and her husband, Jinesh P Sukumaran. Reshma ended her own life on December 31, months after Jinesh was found dead in Israel on July 4.

Alleged Threats from Moneylenders

In their petition to the Sulthan Bathery Police, Reshma's parents, Gireesh and Shaila, detailed a distressing story. They claim the couple faced persistent threats from moneylenders. Jinesh had borrowed a significant sum of Rs 20 lakh from two brothers in Beenachi. This loan came after his medical representative business suffered heavy losses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As security for the loan, Jinesh provided four blank cheque leaves and signed stamp paper. The family states he transferred Rs 14.7 lakh to a bank account as directed for repayment. He also paid additional amounts towards the principal and interest. However, the situation took a dark turn.

Legal Troubles and Property Attachment

A man named Sooraj, a native of Chulliyode, later filed a case against Jinesh. He claimed Jinesh owed him Rs 20 lakh, using one of the cheques originally given to the lenders. Following this legal action, authorities attached Jinesh's house at Koliyadi near Sulthan Bathery.

The family alleges the lenders continued to demand more money. They insisted a further Rs 30 lakh was still due, despite the payments already made. This financial pressure and the loss of their home caused severe mental distress for Reshma. Her family believes this distress directly led to her tragic decision to take her own life.

Alleged Physical Confrontation and Police Inaction

The complaint reveals a frightening incident before Jinesh left India. The two moneylender brothers allegedly intercepted the couple in their car at Beenachi. They reportedly manhandled both Jinesh and Reshma during this confrontation.

Reshma had submitted a petition to the police regarding these threats. Her family says the police did not register a case based on her complaint. They also allege that a separate complaint filed by Jinesh on January 8, 2025, was ignored by authorities.

The petition clearly states, "The police's failure to act on these complaints led to the two suicides." This strong accusation highlights the family's deep frustration with the law enforcement response.

The Tragic Outcomes

Jinesh P Sukumaran was working as a caregiver in Israel. He was found hanging in July last year at Mevaserat Zion, near Jerusalem. In a chilling detail, the elderly woman under his care was also found dead at the scene with multiple stab injuries.

Back in Kerala, Reshma, a native of Koleri, consumed poison at her residence on December 29. She was rushed for treatment but later died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. These two deaths, separated by months and geography, are now linked by a family's quest for justice and their allegations against local moneylenders.
