Farmers protest at Gaggobua substation over prolonged power cut
The Zone Baba Bhagat Sen branch of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab staged a protest at the power substation Gaggobua on Tuesday, demanding immediate restoration of electricity supply to several villages that had been without power for the past three days. The protest was led by the organisation's leader, Paramjit Singh Chhina, and saw participation from a large number of farmers and local residents from nearby villages.
Leaders highlight severity of the crisis
Addressing the gathering, leaders including Harpreet Singh Bhuchar, Kuljit Singh Chheena, Balwinder Singh Bhuchar, Kashmir Singh, Jaswinder Singh, and Amarjit Singh stated that the Gaggobua feeder was supposed to provide 24-hour electricity supply to villages such as Gaggobua, Bhuchar Kalan, Bhuchar Khurd, Mahne Mallian, Chhina Bidhi Chand, and Sursingh. However, due to high load on the line, the supply had been disrupted for three consecutive days, causing immense hardship to the common people, especially children and the elderly.
Farmers warn of intensified agitation
The farmers warned that they would continue their protest until the electricity supply was fully restored. They emphasized that the prolonged power cut was affecting daily life, including water supply, household chores, and the health of vulnerable groups.
Powercom SDO assures restoration
On this occasion, the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Powercom, Chabal, arrived at the protest site and assured the farmers that power supply would be restored promptly. Following this assurance, the farmers called off the protest. However, they warned that if there was any further disruption in electricity supply, the organisation would be forced to launch a fierce struggle.
