A fire safety department team conducted a second inspection of Khan Global Studies in Kadamkuan, Patna, on Saturday to evaluate compliance with fire safety norms. The audit, led by Lodipur Fire Sub-Divisional Officer Indrajit Kumar, reviewed progress since the June 7 inspection, which had identified multiple deficiencies and instructed the management to rectify them within 7–10 days.
Key Lapses Still Unaddressed
Nearly two weeks after the initial inspection, officials found several critical issues unresolved. While some corrective measures have been implemented, the institute has not met the required safety standards, according to Indrajit Kumar.
Among the major concerns, the proposed second fire escape staircase has not been constructed. The automatic sprinkler and fire detection systems remain inadequate, and the pump house arrangement is still incomplete. Officials noted that the existing measures are insufficient for a building with high daily student footfall.
Deficiencies Highlighted in Initial Audit
The June 7 audit had revealed serious gaps, including the absence of a proper firefighting system, inadequate water storage for emergencies, and lack of a fire pump of required capacity. Deficiencies were also noted in the downcomer system, emergency exit signage, fire alarm network, and electrical safety. The institute was found to have fewer fire extinguishers than mandated, and issues related to setback provisions and other structural fire safety norms were flagged.
Ultimatum for Compliance
Following the latest inspection, officials have given the management another 10 days to rectify all shortcomings. They warned that failure to comply will invite action under fire safety rules.
