Dense Fog Causes Chaotic Pile-Ups on National Highway-9 in Amroha
Early Saturday morning, dense fog created dangerous driving conditions on National Highway-9 in Amroha. This led to two separate multi-vehicle accidents near the Didoli area. At least six people suffered injuries in these collisions. Three of them are in critical condition.
Poor Visibility and Non-Functional Streetlights Worsen Situation
Police officials reported that thick fog severely reduced visibility on the highway. Making matters worse, streetlights along that stretch were not working. This combination created a hazardous environment for drivers in the early hours.
First Chain Collision Occurs Around 4:30 AM
The initial accident happened on the Moradabad-Delhi lane. A vehicle crashed into a stationary truck. This impact triggered a chain reaction. Several other vehicles collided in quick succession, creating a pile-up.
Second Crash Follows About an Hour Later
Approximately one hour after the first incident, another collision occurred at the same location. This second crash involved a pickup van, a car, and a bus. The recurring accidents highlight the persistent danger posed by the foggy conditions.
Emergency Response and Traffic Disruption
Police and emergency services responded quickly to the scene. They shifted all injured persons to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities used cranes to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway.
Traffic movement was severely disrupted for nearly two hours. Normal flow was only restored after the wreckage was cleared. Circle Officer Abhishek Yadav provided details on the critically injured individuals.
The critically injured include:
- Wahid Ali (35), a vehicle driver from Bareilly
- Hamaza (25), a car occupant from Pakwada
- Harish Kumar (30)
As of late Saturday, no formal complaints had been lodged with the police regarding the accidents. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the risks associated with driving in dense fog, especially on highways with inadequate lighting.
