Dense Fog Blankets West UP, Causing Deadly Chain of Accidents

A thick blanket of fog descended upon western Uttar Pradesh early Friday morning. The severe weather conditions drastically reduced visibility across several districts. This led to a series of separate but serious road accidents involving multiple vehicles.

Tragedy in Mainpuri: School Van Driver Killed

In Mainpuri district, a tragic collision claimed the life of a young driver. The incident occurred in an area under the Kurawali police station. Mohit Kumar, a 24-year-old school van driver, was transporting six students at the time.

The students were from Classes 2 to 5. Dense fog enveloped the area as Kumar drove the van. A truck suddenly hit the van under the poor visibility conditions.

Sub-divisional magistrate Neeraj Dwivedi provided details on the aftermath. Kumar and four children sustained serious injuries. Authorities rushed them to the district hospital. Two other children received minor injuries. Medical staff treated them at the Kurawali community health centre.

Despite efforts to save him, Mohit Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The community mourns the loss of the young driver.

Chaos on Aligarh's GT Road

Meanwhile, in Aligarh, visibility on the busy GT Road dropped to a mere five meters. This extreme condition triggered a major pile-up involving vehicles heading towards Khurja.

Lodha Station House Officer Gajendra Singh reported on the scene. At least thirteen people suffered injuries in this collision. Many of them were in critical condition. All injured individuals were taken to the district hospital for urgent care.

The police investigation revealed a chaotic sequence of events. As many as seven vehicles were caught in the collision. Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene.

They reported that one canter rammed into another with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the vehicle broke through the road divider. It then veered into the opposite lane of traffic.

Several heavy trucks and smaller vehicles could not stop in time. They collided in quick succession, creating a massive wreck. Screams for help filled the air, drawing residents from nearby areas.

Local people quickly alerted the police. Rescue teams worked for hours to free people trapped inside the mangled vehicles. The damaged vehicles were eventually removed from the road. Traffic remained affected for a significant period.

Shop Damage in Farrukhabad

In Farrukhabad district, another fog-related accident caused property damage and injuries. The incident took place in an area under the Nawabganj police station.

Police stated that dense fog caused a truck driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck crashed directly into four roadside shops. Two people sustained injuries in this incident.

One of the injured required admission to the community health centre for treatment. Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage to the shops.

These separate incidents highlight the severe dangers posed by dense winter fog in northern India. They underscore the critical need for extreme caution while driving during such low-visibility conditions. Motorists are advised to use fog lights, reduce speed, and avoid unnecessary travel when fog warnings are issued.
