Daltonganj: Four wedding guests travelling on the rooftop of a bus suffered electric jolts after coming into contact with an overhead 11 kV power line near Gargaon Pulya under Panki police station limits late Friday night. The wedding party was en route from Chhatarpur in Palamu to Lawalong in Chatra district, police said.
Incident Details
Officer in-charge of Panki police station, Rajesh Ranjan, reported that although the bus had sufficient seating capacity, the four men, aged between 15 and 40, chose to sit on the rooftop to enjoy the night breeze. During the journey, they inadvertently touched an overhead 11 kV power line and sustained severe electric shocks.
All four were rushed to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj. According to a nursing staff member at MMCH, two of the injured—identified as Pramod and Binod—left the hospital against medical advice. The remaining two, Ranjan and Rajesh, are undergoing treatment and are currently out of danger.
Police Advisory
Police have urged wedding party organisers and transport operators to prevent passengers from climbing onto bus rooftops, citing the serious risks posed by low-hanging and high-voltage electricity lines, especially during night-time journeys. Authorities emphasize that such dangerous practices can lead to fatal accidents.
