Police in Purnia district are investigating the mysterious death of a young fruit merchant. The body of Mohammad Afzal, aged 32, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel bathroom on Monday.
Family Alleges Foul Play
Afzal's family members strongly believe this was not a suicide. They have accused unknown persons of murdering him. The family claims someone then staged the scene to make it look like he took his own life.
Audio Recording Reveals Threats
The family's suspicion stems from a critical piece of evidence. They possess an audio recording. In this recording, Afzal is heard speaking to his uncle. He explicitly states that certain individuals were threatening to kill him.
Suspicious Circumstances at the Hotel
Investigating officers noted several odd details about the hotel room. First, the booking was made under the name of a person from Nawada district. This individual is not immediately connected to the deceased.
Second, police found three used tea cups inside the room. This discovery strongly suggests that other people were present with Afzal before his death. The presence of multiple cups contradicts a simple suicide narrative.
Police Await Postmortem Report
Sadar Police Station House Officer Ajay Kumar addressed the media. He stated that the exact cause of death remains undetermined. The final conclusion will depend on the official postmortem examination report.
"The postmortem will confirm the cause of death," SHO Kumar said. The police are treating the case with caution, examining all angles from suicide to homicide.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community in Patna and Purnia. Afzal was known as a fruit merchant going about his daily business. The allegations of murder have raised serious questions about his final hours.
