Temple Festival Violence Erupts in Alappuzha as Rival Gangs Clash
A peaceful temple festival in Thrikkunnapuzha, Alappuzha, descended into chaos on Saturday night when two rival gangs allegedly engaged in a violent confrontation, leaving numerous individuals injured. The incident, which occurred near the festival grounds, has prompted a significant police response and investigation into the escalating gang-related tensions in the area.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Violent Altercation
According to official reports from the Thrikkunnapuzha police, the conflict began earlier on Saturday evening. A gang consisting of approximately ten members initiated an argument with Vishnu Sathyan, a 33-year-old resident of Haripad, and his group of friends. This initial altercation took place at the KTDC beer parlour located in Thrikkunnapuzha, setting the stage for the subsequent violence.
The situation escalated dramatically around 12:30 AM on Sunday, when the same gang launched a brutal attack on Sathyan and his companions. The assault occurred at the Pulikeezhu junction along the Thrikkunnapuzha-Karthikappally road, dangerously close to the ongoing temple festival where numerous devotees and locals were present.
Severe Injuries and Police Intervention
The First Information Report (FIR) filed in the case details the severity of the attack. Vishnu Sathyan sustained critical injuries, including a fractured arm and severe head trauma, after being struck with a wooden object. His friends, identified as Arun and others, also suffered significant injuries during the violent melee.
Police sources have indicated that the confrontation involved approximately ten individuals from opposing factions, with at least two sustaining serious wounds requiring medical attention. The chaos intensified when an air pistol was reportedly brandished during the brawl, further escalating the dangerous situation.
Preventive Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
In response to the incident, Thrikkunnapuzha police have taken swift action by placing two individuals into preventive custody. Mannarshala Mahesh and Praveen Prasannan, identified as leaders of the respective gangs involved in the clash, are currently being held as authorities work to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that efforts are actively underway to identify and apprehend all other participants involved in the violent confrontation. The police are conducting thorough investigations to determine the full scope of the incident and ensure that appropriate legal measures are taken against those responsible for disrupting public order and endangering lives during the religious festival.
