GBA Suspends Official for Illegal 'A' Khata in Herohalli

The Government of Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has suspended a revenue official for issuing 'A' khata certificates to an unauthorised layout in Herohalli, Bengaluru. According to the GBA order, the irregularities have also caused loss of revenue running into several crores.

Details of the Suspension

The official, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found to have approved 'A' khata for plots in a layout that lacked proper approvals from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) or the city municipal corporation. The GBA's investigation revealed that the official bypassed standard verification procedures, leading to the issuance of khata certificates that legitimised illegal constructions.

Revenue Loss and Impact

The GBA order stated that the unauthorised issuance resulted in a significant revenue loss, estimated to be in the crores of rupees. The exact amount is under assessment. 'A' khata is a crucial document for property owners in Bengaluru, as it confirms legal ownership and is required for obtaining building licenses, water connections, and property tax receipts. Issuing it to illegal layouts undermines the city's planning and revenue systems.
