Ghaziabad man arrested for illegal firearms supply in Delhi-NCR

In a significant crackdown on the illicit arms trade, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended a 26-year-old man accused of supplying illegal firearms across the National Capital Region (NCR). The arrest, which took place on Friday, led to the recovery of two sophisticated pistols and multiple live cartridges.

Arrest Near Metro Station Following Cyber Tip-Off

Acting on specific intelligence developed by the cyber cell, a police team laid a trap near the Shastri Park Metro Station. The accused, identified as Ankit, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended after he attempted to flee upon seeing the police officials. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam confirmed that the operation was executed based on precise information, leading to a swift arrest.

Weapons Recovered and Interrogation Details

From the possession of the accused, the police recovered two pistols—one of STAR make and one Beretta—along with six live cartridges. Following his arrest, a case was registered under relevant sections of the stringent Arms Act. During interrogation, Ankit allegedly confessed to his involvement in the network and disclosed his role in procuring these weapons from other suppliers, highlighting the inter-state connections often involved in such illegal trades.

Ongoing Investigations and Broader Implications

This arrest underscores the continued efforts of the Delhi Police to dismantle networks that fuel crime by providing illegal weapons. The recovery of foreign-made pistols points to a sophisticated supply chain. Investigations are now focused on tracing the origins of the firearms and identifying the other individuals involved in the procurement and distribution network. Such operations are critical for enhancing security in the Delhi-NCR region.
