A tragic accident occurred near Chittampatti in Madurai on Friday morning when a car overturned after the driver attempted to avoid hitting a dog, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old girl and injuries to three others.
Details of the Incident
According to police, Anbarasu, along with 11 family members from Kundrathur near Chennai, was traveling in a car to the Subramaniya Swamy temple at Thiruchendur. The vehicle was being driven by Anbarasu's younger brother, Thangappan. Around 9:30 am, while the car was near Chittampatti Auxilium College on the Madurai-Trichy National Highway, a dog suddenly crossed the road. In a swift attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Thangappan swerved the car, lost control, and the vehicle overturned.

In the impact, Thangappan's daughter, Liyashree, sustained severe injuries to her head, hand, and legs. Locals immediately called the 108 ambulance service, and the girl was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival. Three other family members—Malathi, Thangappan, and Mahizhini—sustained minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.
Investigation
The Othakadai police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are examining factors such as speed, road conditions, and the driver's actions to determine the exact cause of the crash.
