A social media influencer based in Gorakhpur created widespread alarm on Friday evening after broadcasting a live video that appeared to show her attempting suicide. The incident prompted a swift emergency response from local authorities, only to be revealed as a misguided stunt.
Panic Broadcast on Social Media
The woman went live on her social media platform, where she was seen holding what looked like pills and consuming them with water. A melancholic song played in the background, amplifying the distressing nature of the video. In an emotional post accompanying the broadcast, she addressed her friends with a cryptic message: "If I die, don't ask why I died. Just think for yourself what could have been the reason."
Swift Police Intervention and the Truth Revealed
Meta's artificial intelligence systems automatically detected the potentially harmful content and immediately alerted the Gorakhpur police. Acting on the alert, the police quickly traced the woman's location to a residence in the Gulriha area and arrived at the scene.
Upon questioning, the influencer confessed that the entire episode was a prank intended for her circle of friends. The woman, a resident of Gopalganj district in Bihar who works as a chef at a local hotel in Gorakhpur, clarified that she had actually consumed a piece of chewing gum, not any poison or medication.
Police Response and Stern Warning
Confirming the sequence of events, Gulriha Station House Officer (SHO) Vijay Pratap Singh stated that the police responded with urgency to the AI-generated alert. However, the case was ultimately found to be false. The officer confirmed that the woman was let off after being issued a strict warning against creating such misleading and dangerous content online.
This incident highlights the potential consequences of using sensitive topics like self-harm for attention or as a joke, unnecessarily diverting critical police resources and causing public distress.
