A young guest worker from Odisha tragically lost his life after falling from the terrace of a one-storey building in Coimbatore on Thursday evening. The incident has cast a pall over the Avarampalayam area and prompted a police investigation.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased has been identified as S Lakhim Harijhan, a 23-year-old from Nowrangpur in Odisha. According to police reports, Lakhim had been employed at a travel firm located in Siddhapudur. He had worked there for approximately two weeks as a loadman in the parcel service department.
On the fateful day, Thursday afternoon, Lakhim went out and later returned to his residence in Avarampalayam. He was reportedly in an inebriated state upon his return. Subsequently, he proceeded to the terrace of the single-storey building where he was staying.
Discovery and Response
M Daniel, the 32-year-old manager of the travel firm, who also resides in the same building, made the grim discovery. He found Lakhim lying unconscious on the ground after the fall. Daniel immediately contacted the 108 ambulance service for emergency medical assistance.
Upon arrival, the ambulance staff examined Lakhim and, unfortunately, declared him dead at the scene. Following this, Daniel informed the Peelamedu police station about the tragic accident.
Police Investigation and Postmortem
Police officials swiftly reached the spot to conduct initial inquiries. The body of the young worker was then sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have registered a case regarding the incident and have initiated a thorough investigation to piece together the final moments leading to the fatal fall. The probe aims to confirm the sequence of events and rule out any other possibilities.
This unfortunate event highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers in urban centers. The local community and police are dealing with the aftermath of the sudden death of the young man who had recently arrived in Tamil Nadu for work.
