Police in Gurgaon have arrested a woman and her alleged lover for orchestrating a murder attempt on her husband, a plot that stemmed from an extramarital affair. The incident, which occurred in late December, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The Affair and the Discovery
The case revolves around Poonam (44) and Mankhush (25), a resident of Khagaria district in Bihar. According to police, the two were involved in a secret relationship. The victim, Shiv Shankar (38), who hails from Latifpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district, reportedly discovered the affair approximately a month ago.
This revelation led to frequent and intense quarrels between Shiv and his wife Poonam. The family, including their eight-year-old son, lives in a rented accommodation at Kasan ki Dhani in Manesar, where Shiv works for a private company.
The Plot to Eliminate the Husband
IMT Manesar SHO Satyawan stated that the situation escalated dangerously after Shiv confronted his wife about the affair. Faced with exposure, Poonam and Mankhush allegedly began planning to eliminate Shiv. The officer revealed that the conspiracy was finalized roughly 10 to 15 days before the actual attack was carried out.
The plan was set into motion on December 30. Police say Poonam called her husband and insisted they visit the Jharna temple together. Shiv, who was busy with overtime work at his company, initially refused. However, he eventually relented after his wife repeatedly pressured him to accompany her.
The Attack and Subsequent Arrests
The fateful attack took place as the couple was returning from the temple on a scooter. Near VPS School in Khoh village, a man deliberately rammed into their vehicle, causing both Shiv and Poonam to fall. The assailant was none other than Mankhush, who had lain in wait to execute the plan.
Following a thorough investigation, the police swiftly moved to apprehend the accused. Mankhush was arrested from Khoh village in Manesar on Wednesday. His accomplice, Poonam, was nabbed from Manesar's Sector 3 area on Thursday. During interrogation, both individuals admitted to their illicit relationship and their roles in planning the violent attack on Shiv Shankar.
As evidence, the police have seized an axe-like weapon believed to have been used in the crime, along with a scooter. The case highlights a grim attempt to resolve personal conflict through extreme violence, now leading to serious legal consequences for the perpetrators.
