Police in Gurgaon have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for the alleged sexual assault of a college student who was a regular passenger in his vehicle. The accused, who hails from Fatehpur Taga and was living in Samaypur, has a significant criminal history with six previous cases registered against him in Delhi and Faridabad.
Details of the Assault and Police Complaint
According to the complaint filed at the Sector 58 police station, the victim was acquainted with the driver as she frequently used his auto-rickshaw to travel home from her college and coaching classes. The incident dates back to October of last year. The driver approached her outside her college after classes, offering to drop her home. Instead of taking her to her destination, he took her to his rented room in Samaypur.
There, he allegedly forcibly molested the young woman. Following the assault, he threatened her to keep silent about the crime. Initially intimidated, the victim did not confide in anyone immediately. However, she later gathered the courage to reveal the traumatic incident to her family, which led to the filing of a formal police complaint.
Arrest and Criminal History of the Accused
The police acted swiftly on the complaint and apprehended the auto driver. A senior police officer confirmed that the accused confessed to the crime. The investigation into his background revealed a disturbing pattern of alleged criminal behavior.
The officer stated that the accused already had six cases registered against him previously in Delhi and Faridabad. Notably, one of these past cases was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Faridabad, indicating prior serious allegations of a similar nature.
Legal Charges and Court Proceedings
Based on the victim's complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include Section 64 (rape), Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 351 (criminal intimidation).
Yashpal, the police spokesperson in Faridabad, provided details of the legal proceedings. The accused was presented before the Faridabad court, which subsequently ordered his judicial custody. He was sent to jail on Friday following the court hearing.
This case has highlighted serious concerns about the safety of women relying on shared transport and the potential threat posed by repeat offenders. The police action underscores the importance of reporting such crimes, as it can lead to the arrest of individuals with a history of predatory behavior.
