The accused, identified as Divyam, a resident of Delhi, was produced before a city court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

Details of the Incident

According to authorities, the victim, a student of Delhi University originally hailing from West Bengal, attended a birthday celebration at a friend's apartment located in Sector 33 of Gurgaon on Saturday. The event involved the consumption of alcohol, and the accused joined the party through one of the victim's acquaintances.

Police reports indicate that late into the night, Divyam, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, began molesting the young woman. It is further claimed that he then led her to a secluded area within the apartment and sexually assaulted her, exploiting her intoxicated condition.

The survivor resisted the attack and raised an alarm, which alerted her friend at the scene. The accused fled immediately following the incident. The next day, the woman approached law enforcement, leading to the registration of a case at Sadar Police Station under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A medical examination was promptly conducted, and her statement was officially recorded before a judicial magistrate. A senior police officer stated, "The accused, who resides in Rohini, Delhi, has been arrested. He had been invited to the party by a friend. Preliminary investigations suggest that the crime was committed while he was under the influence of alcohol. He has been sent to judicial custody, and further inquiries are ongoing."
