In a significant enforcement action against noise pollution, the Gurgaon police arrested two employees of a prominent real estate firm for allegedly organizing a loud musical event in a residential area beyond permissible hours and without the required official sanction.
The Midnight Disturbance on Sohna Road
The incident unfolded on Monday night around 11 PM. The police control room received an alert from an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) team regarding excessively loud music blaring from a realty project located on Sohna Road in Sector-50. The area, being a designated residential neighbourhood, is governed by strict noise pollution norms and court orders that prohibit such high-decibel activities after 10 PM.
A team from the Sector-50 police station promptly reached the spot. They confirmed that DJ music was being played at a disturbingly high volume, causing a nuisance to local residents. The officers immediately ordered the music to be stopped and demanded the event organizers produce the mandatory permission documents from competent authorities for such an assembly.
Failed Promises and Subsequent Arrests
The organizers, who were employees of the Elan Group, failed to present any permission on the spot. They assured the police officials that the necessary documents would be submitted the following morning. Based on this assurance, immediate action was deferred.
However, when Tuesday arrived, no permission letter was produced to the police. With clear evidence of violations—playing loud music after 10 PM without authorization—the police proceeded to register a formal case at the Sector-50 police station. The charges were filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disturbing public peace and flouting noise pollution regulations.
The accused were identified as Amarjeet (55), a resident of Mundka in Delhi, and Keshav (30), who hails from Tatarpur village. Police investigations revealed that Amarjeet had been serving as the security head for the realty firm for an impressive 15 years. Keshav was employed as a senior manager with the company for approximately one and a half years. Both individuals were formally taken into custody and joined in the investigation process.
Company Denial and Legal Repercussions
When contacted by the media, the Elan Group denied the allegations leveled against its employees. Despite the company's stance, the police action underscores a zero-tolerance approach towards violations of noise pollution norms in residential zones. The case highlights the ongoing challenge authorities face in balancing commercial or promotional activities with the right of citizens to peace and quiet in their homes, especially during late-night hours.
This arrest serves as a stern reminder to event organizers and corporations that permissions are mandatory, and court-mandated deadlines for noise control are strictly enforced. The Gurgaon police's proactive response following the ERV alert demonstrates their commitment to upholding civic laws designed to protect the quality of life for residents.
