A night out at a club in Gurgaon took a horrifying turn when a 25-year-old woman was shot for rejecting a marriage proposal from a man who had been persistently harassing her, police officials reported. The victim, identified as Kalpana, is married, yet the accused continued to pressure her.
From Harassment to Violence: The Escalation
According to the complaint filed by Kalpana's husband, the accused, Tushar alias Jonty (25), had been pressuring her to marry him for some time, fully aware of her marital status. The harassment escalated about a month prior to the shooting incident when Tushar visited the couple's neighbourhood, created a disturbance, and even fired shots at their house. A case regarding this earlier threat was registered at the DLF Sector 29 police station.
The Fateful Night at the Club
On the night of the incident, Tushar, accompanied by his friend Shubham alias Johnny (24), confronted Kalpana at the club. He once again proposed to her. When she refused, Tushar allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot her in the stomach. The violent attack transformed a social venue into a crime scene, leaving the victim seriously injured.
Joint Police Operation Leads to Arrests
Following the shooting, a coordinated investigation was launched. Teams from the Crime Branch Sector 40 and the MG Road police post worked together to track down the suspects. Their efforts culminated on December 25, when both accused were apprehended from Baraut in Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, Tushar reportedly confessed to having befriended Kalpana approximately six months ago and developing an obsession to marry her, which led to the violent assault upon rejection.
The arrest of the two men brings a measure of relief in a case that highlights severe stalking and premeditated violence. The police investigation is ongoing to uncover further details about the weapon used and the complete timeline of harassment.
