A habitual offender with a criminal record spanning 67 cases was arrested by the Bengaluru police in the Banaswadi area on Wednesday. The accused, identified as a repeat offender, had been evading court proceedings and was absconding in more than 30 non-bailable warrant (NBW) cases and over five proclamation cases, according to police officials.
Details of the Arrest
The arrest was made by a special team from the Banaswadi police station following a tip-off about his presence in the locality. The police laid a trap and apprehended him without any resistance. The accused was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said the accused was involved in multiple crimes, including theft, burglary, and assault, across various police jurisdictions in Bengaluru. He had been on the run for several years, frequently changing locations to avoid arrest.
Legal Proceedings and Warrants
According to the police, the accused had accumulated 67 cases against him, with over 30 non-bailable warrants issued by different courts. Additionally, there were more than five proclamation cases where he had been declared a proclaimed offender. The court had issued repeated summons, but he failed to appear, leading to the issuance of NBWs.
The police have initiated steps to close the pending cases and ensure that the accused faces trial in all matters. An investigation is ongoing to determine if he was involved in any other criminal activities during his time on the run.
Impact on Local Crime
The arrest is expected to bring relief to residents of Banaswadi and surrounding areas, as the accused was known for his criminal activities. Local police have increased patrolling in the area to prevent any further incidents. The accused's arrest is part of a larger crackdown on habitual offenders in the city.
