Faridkot Police Arrest Married Couple in Heroin Smuggling Case

The Counter Intelligence and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Faridkot Police has arrested a married couple, Balwinder Singh alias Binder and his wife Sarbjit Kaur, on charges of heroin smuggling. The arrest occurred during a routine patrolling operation along a highway link road in Faridkot district, Punjab. According to police officials, the couple, originally from Jind district in Haryana, was actively involved in cross-border and local drug trafficking.

Habitual Offender with Prior NDPS Cases

Preliminary investigations revealed that Balwinder Singh is a habitual offender with two prior criminal cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police suspect that the couple was part of a larger drug trafficking racket operating across Punjab and Haryana. The Kotkapura Sadar Police have registered a fresh case under the NDPS Act and obtained their remand for further interrogation.

Police Probe Backward Linkages and Delivery Network

The police are now investigating the backward supply linkages of the accused to identify the source of the narcotics and the intended recipients in the region. A senior police officer stated, “We are examining their network to dismantle the entire supply chain. The remand will help us trace the origins and destinations of the drugs.” The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in border districts of Punjab.
