Haryana Police Implements Comprehensive Security Measures Ahead of Farmer Protest

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police announced on Friday that they have established elaborate security arrangements across the state to ensure law and order in anticipation of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha's call for a protest scheduled for Saturday. This proactive measure aims to prevent any potential disruptions and maintain public safety during the demonstration.

High-Level Meeting and Strategic Directives

Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal convened a special meeting at the police headquarters in Chandigarh to address the impending protest. During this crucial gathering, Singhal issued necessary directives to senior officers, emphasizing the importance of a preemptive and effective strategy. The meeting saw participation from top police officials, including additional directors general of police, inspectors general of police, police commissioners, and superintendents of police, who joined via video conferencing to ensure statewide coordination.

Key attendees at the headquarters included ADGP (CID) Saurabh Singh and ADGP (law and order) Sanjay Kumar, alongside several other senior officers, highlighting the seriousness with which the police are approaching the situation.

Addressing Potential Threats and Ensuring Preparedness

DGP Singhal expressed concerns about the possibility of anti-social elements attempting to disrupt law and order during the proposed blockade by farmer organizations. He referenced past incidents where such elements had tried to disturb the peace during similar protests, underscoring the need for vigilance. "Therefore, it is essential to formulate a robust and effective strategy in advance to control any untoward situation at an early stage and ensure complete maintenance of law and order," Singhal stated.

He directed police officers to activate their intelligence networks and make adequate arrangements at all announced protest locations. Singhal stressed that proper briefing of the deployed police force is critical, ensuring every personnel is clearly aware of their duties—understanding what, when, and how to act in any given scenario.

Balancing Rights and Responsibilities

While acknowledging the democratic right to protest peacefully, Singhal made it clear that any attempts to disrupt law and order will not be tolerated. He instructed superintendents of police to implement necessary arrangements, including the preparation of traffic diversion plans, to minimize inconvenience to the general public. Additionally, he emphasized that there should be no disruption at mandi gates, and the movement of tractor-trolleys must remain smooth to support agricultural activities.

Engagement and Dialogue with Farmers

Police officers were directed to hold meetings with farmer leaders in their respective areas, appealing for peace and cooperation. ADGP (CID) Saurabh Singh highlighted the importance of dialogue, noting that most issues can be resolved through communication. He pointed out that the next five to six days are crucial for crop procurement and lifting, making it imperative to maintain order in mandis and surrounding areas.

"The primary objective is to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience in mandis," Singh emphasized, directing that proper arrangements be made to uphold law and order in these key agricultural hubs.

This comprehensive approach by the Haryana Police reflects a commitment to safeguarding both public safety and the rights of citizens, as the state prepares for the upcoming farmer protest.
