In a significant move to curb criminal activities, the Indore police launched an intensive city-wide drive targeting anti-social elements, habitual offenders, and goons. The operation, characterized by large-scale surprise checks and rigorous night patrols, aimed to maintain law and order and keep crime rates under strict control.
Massive Coordinated Night Operations
On the intervening night of December 19 and 20, police teams across Indore carried out a coordinated crackdown. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya stated that the operations were led by senior officials and station in-charges. The teams conducted checks on a staggering 776 known offenders and suspects spanning various police station jurisdictions.
Out of those checked, legal action was initiated against 454 individuals. These individuals were allegedly found involved in unlawful activities or were in violation of preventive laws. A major achievement of the drive was the execution of more than 155 pending warrants in different cases. This included 10 permanent warrants, 56 arrest warrants, and 89 bailable warrants. Notably, many of these warrants were against accused persons who had been absconding for a considerable period.
Drunk Driving Crackdown and Preventive Actions
The police also focused sharply on the menace of drunk driving. During the checks, 202 motorists were found driving under the influence of alcohol. Action under the Motor Vehicles Act was taken against 185 of these drivers. The breakdown revealed that 145 were two-wheeler riders and 57 were four-wheeler drivers. Police officials emphasized that such strict action would continue to deter reckless drivers who endanger both their own lives and public safety.
Simultaneously, preventive action was launched against habitual offenders under various sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The actions included:
- 8 accused booked under section 170
- 10 under section 129
- 27 under sections 126B and 135(3)
- 8 under section 141(1)
This brought the total number of offenders booked under preventive provisions to 53.
Enhanced Surveillance and Hotspot Checks
As part of the enhanced surveillance strategy, police teams conducted special checks and employed drone patrolling in sensitive zones identified across the city. The operation covered:
- 166 crime hotspots
- 42 multi-storey buildings
- 107 shadow areas
During these surveillance activities, police personnel checked over 322 individuals. This list included 125 known goons, 81 knife offenders, two suspected drug peddlers, suspects involved in crimes against women and incidents of arson and vandalism, along with 85 other suspicious persons. Action was ultimately taken against 44 of these suspects. The drive also led to the apprehension of several absconding criminals.
The Indore police have signaled that such intensive drives and surprise checks will remain a regular feature of their strategy to ensure the city's safety and deter criminal elements effectively.
