Four-Month-Old Boy Rescued in Jamshedpur Within 14 Hours of Kidnapping
Police in East Singhbhum district successfully rescued a four-month-old boy named Indradev within just 14 hours of his kidnapping. The incident occurred at the Degam weekly market under the Kowali police station limits on Sunday.
How the Kidnapping Unfolded
Pratima Sardar, a resident of Rangamatia under Dumaria police station, visited the weekly market to sell chicken. She brought her three children along, including the infant Indradev. As her customer numbers grew, Pratima handed the toddler to her six-year-old daughter, Mamta, for safekeeping.
While Mamta watched her brother, a woman named Jhumarani Mandal approached her. Mandal offered Mamta Rs 20 to buy snacks, promising to look after the baby in her absence. When Mamta returned, she discovered both the woman and her brother were missing.
Swift Police Action Leads to Rescue
Pratima immediately filed a complaint with local police authorities. Officers quickly formed a special investigation team to handle the case. The team reviewed footage from CCTV cameras installed throughout the market and surrounding areas.
Police also utilized technical cell resources during their search operation. Their coordinated efforts proved successful, leading to the infant's recovery within 14 hours of the reported kidnapping.
Arrest Made and Motive Revealed
Authorities arrested Jhumarani Mandal, a native of Bheladih, in connection with the abduction. Rishabha Garg, SP (rural), provided additional details about the case during a briefing.
"The accused woman's daughter cannot bear children," Garg explained. "This appears to be the primary motive behind the kidnapping."
The police operation demonstrates effective coordination between different units within the department. Their rapid response ensured the safe return of the infant to his family.
