Jind Police Parades Six Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Operatives in High-Profile Extortion Case
In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Jind police on Wednesday publicly paraded six operatives linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The dramatic display occurred in a local market following their arrest in connection with an attempted extortion case that has sent shockwaves through the region.
Details of the Extortion Attempt and Arrest
The accused were apprehended for allegedly demanding a staggering ransom of Rs 2 crore from a trader identified as Anoop, a resident of Titoli village in Rohtak. According to police reports, the gang members threatened to kill Anoop's family if their exorbitant demand was not met promptly. An FIR was officially registered against the suspects on March 25, marking the formal beginning of the investigation.
Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh addressed the media, revealing that the accused—Ayush from Sonipat, along with Akash, Aditya Bhardwaj, Yash Khatri, Ankit Kumar, and Aditya Khatri, all hailing from Delhi—were formally arrested from Sonipat jail using production warrants. This procedural step underscores the legal rigor applied in the case.
Investigation Findings and Police Custody
Police investigations uncovered that the accused had meticulously planned their extortion scheme. They purchased mobile phones and SIM cards specifically to execute their illicit activities, demonstrating a calculated approach to avoid detection. Following their arrest, the suspects were produced before a court, which remanded them to three-day police custody for further interrogation and evidence collection.
SP Kuldeep Singh emphasized that all the accused are young individuals, aged between 18 and 22 years. Some of them have prior criminal backgrounds, indicating a pattern of involvement in unlawful activities. The police have also revealed that the operatives were receiving instructions from handlers operating from abroad, highlighting the transnational nature of the gang's operations. These handlers directed the accused in executing extortion activities, suggesting a well-organized criminal network.
