The Justice for Diljot action committee has announced a series of protests to demand a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of advocate Diljot Sharma. The committee plans to stage demonstrations at the offices of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mansa in January and the police commissioner in Ludhiana on February 2.
Protests Planned for Mansa and Ludhiana
Activists revealed this action plan during the bhog ceremony held for Diljot at Ralla village in Mansa district. They insist on an impartial probe, arguing that the circumstances surrounding her death require more scrutiny than the police have provided.
Details of Diljot Sharma's Case
Diljot Sharma, a twenty-five-year-old advocate, worked with a Leftist organisation and fought legal cases for poor sections in Ludhiana. She died under mysterious circumstances, with colleagues stating she was suffering from depression. The police acted on the basis of a suicide note and conducted legal formalities under unnatural death.
However, many activists and family members question this conclusion. They believe her death does not seem like a simple suicide case and deserves a more comprehensive investigation.
Voices from the Bhog Ceremony
At the bhog ceremony, activists from various Left organisations gathered to express their concerns. CPI (ML) Liberation leader Sukhdarshan Singh Natt emphasised their demand for the registration of a case and a proper investigation. He stated that the decision to hold protests in Mansa and Ludhiana aims to forcefully raise this demand for justice.
Veerpal Kaur, Diljot's mother and an Aaganwadi worker, appealed to the activists for support. She urged them to stand with the family in demanding a fair probe into her daughter's death.
Notable Attendees and Support
The bhog ceremony also saw the presence of Takhat Damdama Sahib's former Jathedar Giani Kewal Singh, highlighting broader community concern over the case. His attendance underscores the significance of this issue in the local area.
As the protests approach, the action committee remains steadfast in its call for transparency and justice. They argue that only a detailed investigation can uncover the truth behind Diljot Sharma's untimely demise.
