Kaithal BDPO Nabbed Red-Handed in Rs 5 Lakh Bribery Sting Operation

In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) executed a meticulously planned operation on Friday, resulting in the arrest of a Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) from Kaithal district. The officer, identified as Jagjit Singh, was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in his office.

Complaint and Evidence Trigger ACB Action

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Sandeep, a resident of Badsui village. Sandeep detailed a distressing situation where, despite existing stay orders from both the civil court and the commissioner court against a decision by the SDM court, BDPO Jagjit Singh continued to pressure him to demolish his house.

"After receiving the demolition notice, I contacted Guhla BDPO Jagjit Singh over the phone. He explicitly demanded Rs 5 lakh in exchange for not proceeding with the demolition. I recorded the entire conversation and submitted this audio evidence to the anti-corruption bureau," Sandeep stated, highlighting the premeditated nature of the officer's demand.

Sting Operation and Arrest Details

Acting swiftly on the complaint and the compelling audio evidence, the ACB team devised a trap. ACB Inspector Sube Singh explained that the operation was coordinated with precision. "Based on Sandeep's complaint and the audio recording, we set a trap and successfully arrested the accused officer while he was accepting the bribe of Rs 5 lakh," he confirmed.

The arrest was conducted in the presence of Gurvinder Singh, the Executive Engineer (XEN) of the irrigation department, who was appointed as the duty magistrate to ensure procedural integrity. To maintain transparency and provide irrefutable proof, the entire operation was meticulously video-recorded.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Jagjit Singh is scheduled to be presented before the court on Saturday, where formal charges will be filed. Inspector Sube Singh emphasized the thoroughness of the investigation, noting, "Jagjit Singh is currently under interrogation. We are committed to taking strict action against anyone found involved in this case, ensuring that all accomplices are held accountable."

This incident underscores the ACB's proactive stance against corruption at the grassroots level, particularly in matters involving land and property disputes. The use of recorded evidence and coordinated sting operations reflects a modern approach to combating bribery and upholding judicial orders.

The case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by citizens when public officials allegedly misuse their authority, even in defiance of court directives. It serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to maintain integrity within local governance structures.
