In a significant development in the protracted investigation into the 2021 Haryana Police constable exam paper leak scandal, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kaithal police apprehended another key accused on Tuesday. The arrest marks a continued and vigorous crackdown on individuals allegedly involved in the widespread examination fraud that has rocked the state's recruitment process.
Details of the Latest Arrest and Accused's Role
The arrested individual has been identified as Krishan Kumar, a resident of Madina village in Sonipat district. According to an official police spokesperson, a team led by Inspector Rajender and CIA-1 in-charge Sub-Inspector Jaswant successfully took Kumar into custody. During subsequent interrogation, it was revealed that Krishan Kumar played a crucial role as a middleman in the elaborate scam. His specific function involved directing candidates to a location in Karnal where they could access and read the leaked question paper before the scheduled examination.
Background of the Case and Previous Arrests
This case dates back to August 7, 2021, when the initial breakthrough occurred. The then CIA-1 Kaithal team arrested three individuals: Sandeep and Gautam, both residents of Khapar village in Jind district, and Naveen, from Pyoda village. These arrests were made along with the recovery of answer keys directly linked to the paper leak. Following this, a formal case was registered under various relevant sections at the city police station, launching a comprehensive probe.
The investigation has been extensive, with authorities diligently pursuing all leads. Prior to Krishan Kumar's arrest, the SIT had already taken 169 individuals into custody in connection with this case. This includes a recent arrest of another accused, Kuldeep from Narwana, highlighting the sustained efforts of the police to unravel the entire network involved in the malpractice.
Legal Proceedings and Current Status
Following his arrest on Tuesday, Krishan Kumar was presented before the court. As per the judicial orders issued, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody. The police spokesperson confirmed this step, indicating that the legal process is moving forward as the SIT continues to gather evidence and build a strong case against all those implicated.
