Kanpur Man Allegedly Murders Wife and Infant Son in Drunken Fury
A horrific domestic violence incident has shaken the Sardepur hamlet in Kanpur's Ghatampur area. A man stands accused of brutally killing his wife and their two-and-a-half-month-old son following a violent dispute triggered by his alcohol consumption.
The Tragic Sequence of Events
Late on Sunday night, the accused, identified as Surendra, returned to his home in an intoxicated state. His wife, Ruby, opposed his drunken condition, which quickly escalated into a heated quarrel. Consumed by rage, Surendra allegedly attacked Ruby with a sharp weapon, striking her throat twice. He then turned his violence toward their infant son, Lavansh, hitting the child's head multiple times with the same weapon. Both victims died instantly at the scene.
Neighbors heard the commotion and approached the house, but Surendra locked the door from inside. Assuming it was another routine domestic argument that would settle down, the neighbors eventually left the premises. After committing the gruesome acts, the accused fled the location, leaving the bodies behind.
Discovery and Police Response
The tragedy came to light when Surendra's brother, Pappu, arrived home late that night. He discovered the horrifying scene: both bodies lying in a pool of blood. Pappu immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Deependra Nath Chaudhary stated that preliminary investigations confirm the sequence of events. When police arrived, they found the mother and son lying side by side, with blood scattered throughout the room. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination.
Background and Motive
Police revealed troubling details about the accused's background and the likely motive behind this tragedy. Surendra did not maintain regular employment, occasionally working as a truck helper or taking up labor jobs. Household finances remained precarious, barely covering essential expenses.
Investigators said Surendra squandered whatever money he earned on alcohol, creating constant tension within the household. This financial strain and his drinking habit led to frequent disputes with his wife, Ruby. The couple had married in 2021, with Ruby originally hailing from Gaura Churiyara in Fatehpur district.
Pappu, the brother who discovered the bodies, lamented how alcohol addiction and daily quarrels had torn the family apart. He noted that divisions had already occurred among the three brothers, who all lived separately, with Surendra being the youngest.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have launched an intensive manhunt for the absconding accused. Authorities have formed four special teams conducting raids at possible hideouts. Investigators are questioning villagers and examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.
Forensic experts have collected crucial evidence from the crime scene. Police have recovered the sickle believed to be the murder weapon. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar confirmed that Surendra's mobile phone remains switched off, but the number is under active surveillance.
"We are conducting raids at all possible locations for the accused's arrest," stated JCP Ashutosh Kumar. "He will be arrested soon."
The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and substance abuse, leaving a community in mourning and authorities scrambling for justice.
