Cloth Merchant Attacked in Kapurthala's Sarafa Bazaar

A cloth merchant was left with serious injuries after a gang of youths allegedly stormed his shop and assaulted him with kirpans in Sarafa Bazaar, Kapurthala, on Sunday. The incident caused widespread panic in the busy market. The attackers also vandalised the shop before fleeing. CCTV cameras installed inside the shop captured the entire sequence of events.

Victim Recounts Incident

The injured trader, Ashok Kumar, who owns Jyotika Cloth House, told the police that a few youths initially visited his shop pretending to be customers. After selecting items, they claimed they had no money and said they would return later. Shortly after, they came back with several accomplices. During a conversation, an argument broke out, leading the accused to vandalise the shop and attack Ashok with kirpans. He sustained severe injuries. His son Mohit Kumar rushed him to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Police Investigation Underway

The police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation. Officials are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify the suspects. No arrests have been reported so far.
