In a serious case emerging from a premier medical institution, Lucknow police have launched an intensive search for a resident doctor from King George's Medical University (KGMU). The accused is facing grave allegations of sexually harassing a woman colleague and pressuring her to convert her religion.
Multi-State Manhunt and Legal Action
The police investigation has escalated significantly. Three dedicated police teams have been formed to track down the accused doctor, who has been missing. These teams have been dispatched to various locations across Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand. Authorities are conducting continuous raids and verification exercises to trace his movements.
Due to his failure to appear in court, a non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against him. To bolster the search, police have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for any member of the public who provides credible information leading directly to his arrest.
University Cooperation Sought to Secure Investigation
In a strategic move, the Lucknow police have formally written to the KGMU administration. The letter requests immediate administrative action to debar the accused doctor from entering the university campus. This step is seen as crucial to prevent any potential intimidation or influence on witnesses, students, or staff connected to the case.
The police have also sought the university's full cooperation by sharing key documents. These include the accused's service records, attendance details, and information about his last known movements on campus, which are vital for the ongoing probe.
Core Allegations and Probe Details
The case originated from a formal complaint by a woman doctor. She accused her senior colleague of subjecting her to repeated incidents of sexual harassment. Furthermore, she alleged that he coerced her to change her religion.
Police officials stated that the accused violated explicit instructions given during the investigation. He was directed not to leave Lucknow but chose to disappear, prompting the widespread raids. The probe has expanded to examine several aspects of the accused's background:
- Investigators have questioned his wife regarding allegations that she, too, was coerced into religious conversion before marriage.
- Police are scrutinising his academic history and medical education credentials.
- Claims related to his personal life, including those about multiple marriages, are being verified.
Authorities have assured that the investigation is being handled with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity. They confirmed that further legal steps will be determined based on the evidence gathered and the progress of the investigation.
