Lucknow Police Attach Properties of Absconding KGMU Doctor in Forced Conversion Case
KGMU Doctor's Properties Attached in Forced Conversion Case

In a significant escalation, the Lucknow police have initiated proceedings to attach the properties of an absconding resident doctor from King George's Medical University (KGMU). The doctor, Rameezuddin, faces grave allegations from two women colleagues, including sexual exploitation, forced religious conversion, and causing miscarriage.

Properties Targeted Across Three States

On Wednesday, police teams pasted attachment notices at three locations linked to the fugitive doctor. The targeted properties include a flat in Lucknow's Hussainabad, his ancestral home in Pilibhit district, and another house in Khatima, Uttarakhand. Officials stated that if Rameezuddin does not surrender within one month, these assets will be formally attached.

"If he does not surrender within a month, his properties will be attached," confirmed Chowk Station House Officer (SHO) Nagesh Upadhyaya. The action follows an intensive manhunt involving three police teams conducting raids in Uttarakhand, Shahjahanpur, Noida, and Delhi. A reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest.

Charges of Deceit, Conversion, and Coercion

The case unraveled on December 23, 2025, when a woman medical student from KGMU filed a complaint at the Chowk police station. She alleged that Rameezuddin established a physical relationship with her on the false pretext of marriage, later forced her to terminate a pregnancy, and pressured her to convert her religion.

During the investigation, a second survivor, a woman medical student from Agra Medical College, came forward with similar accusations. She alleged sexual exploitation, forced conversion for a 'nikah' (marriage), and miscarriage. Police discovered that forged documents were prepared to solemnize the nikah with the Agra-based doctor.

Investigators are examining whether the KGMU survivor was taken to a house in Neuria, Pilibhit, where the alleged conversion and marriage ceremony occurred. The roles of the Qazi who performed the rituals and a witness are also under scrutiny.

Parents Arrested, Legal Framework Invoked

The net has widened beyond the main accused. Earlier this week, police arrested Rameezuddin's parents, Salimudin (70) and Khateeja (67), from their rented flat in Thakurganj. They are accused of facilitating the conversion and miscarriage for both women. Both survivors have recorded their statements before a magistrate, naming the doctor and his parents.

Rameezuddin has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, causing miscarriage, and marriage by deceit. Additionally, sections 3 and 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act have been invoked against him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava stated that Lucknow police are coordinating with senior officials in Pilibhit and Khatima to track down the accused. The case highlights a serious breach of trust and the alleged use of professional standing to exploit and coerce colleagues.
