Kite-Flying Dispute Turns Fatal in Gujarat's Gondal Town
Uttarayan celebrations took a tragic turn in Gondal town, Rajkot district. A simple argument between neighbours over cutting kites spiralled into violence. The clash resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man and left three others from the opposing family with serious injuries.
Victim Identified as Local Businessman
The deceased man is Anil Lunasiya. He ran a stone tiling business in the area. Police have shifted three members of the accused family to Rajkot Civil Hospital for medical treatment. They are brothers Sunil Makwana and Sagar, along with their father Kanti.
Police Detail the Sequence of Events
Gondal City police inspector L R Gohil provided initial findings. He stated the trouble started when the two brothers cut Anil's kite. What began as banter quickly turned ugly. The situation escalated into a serious physical fight.
According to a complaint filed by the victim's nephew, Nisha Sondarva, the incident unfolded on January 14. Anil and his friends were flying kites on their terrace around 10:30 in the morning. The violent confrontation erupted later, at approximately 11:45 am.
A Violent Confrontation Unfolds
Sondarva reported seeing Kanti throwing bricks at Anil from his courtyard. Anil and Sunil then confronted each other directly. A scuffle broke out between them.
During the fight, Kanti allegedly joined in to assault Anil. Sagar attacked Anil with a stick. The violence intensified when Sagar produced a knife. He stabbed Anil multiple times in the chest, abdomen, and head.
In a desperate move, Anil managed to wrestle the knife away from Sagar. He fought back, injuring all three attackers. Seeing Anil bleeding heavily, the three men fled the scene. When Sondarva and his mother tried to intervene, they were also attacked.
Medical Response and Fatal Outcome
Authorities rushed Anil to the Gondal government hospital first. Doctors then referred him to Rajkot Civil Hospital for advanced care. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Rajkot. Despite all efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The three accused men are currently receiving treatment at Rajkot Civil Hospital. Police officials confirmed they will face formal arrest once medical professionals discharge them from care.
This shocking incident has cast a shadow over the festive Uttarayan period in the region. It serves as a grim reminder of how quickly minor disputes can escalate into irreversible tragedy.
