Kolhapur Village Struck by Coordinated Burglary Spree
In a brazen overnight crime spree, burglars targeted six locked houses in Gudal village, located within Kolhapur's Radhanagari tehsil, late on Monday night. The thieves made off with a motorcycle, various silver articles, and cash totaling approximately Rs 55,000, according to police statements released on Tuesday.
Timeline and Method of the Break-Ins
The series of burglaries occurred between 10:00 PM on Monday and 5:00 AM on Tuesday. During this period, the houses were securely locked as the families were away from their residences. CCTV footage from the village has captured two masked individuals roaming the streets, systematically targeting homes that were locked from the outside, which clearly indicated that no occupants were present inside at the time.
Police Investigation and Statements
Inspector Sachin Suryawanshi, from the Radhanagari police station, confirmed that special investigative teams have been mobilized to trace the accused and scrutinize their movements through the available CCTV recordings. "The thieves were specifically looking for locked houses and forcibly broke into them. In one instance, a resident reported that his bike, which was parked outside his house at 10:00 PM, was missing the following morning," Inspector Suryawanshi elaborated.
Community Concerns and Historical Context
Local villagers have expressed growing anxiety over security in the area, noting that similar theft incidents have occurred in the past. These crimes predominantly target houses that are temporarily locked after families have moved out for short durations. This pattern has raised significant concerns about the vulnerability of unoccupied homes in the region.
The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities analyzing the CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators and prevent future occurrences.
