A shocking incident of neighbourhood violence unfolded in Kota on Monday morning, where a 34-year-old man was shot three times after being tricked into stepping out of his home. The attack, which left the victim with serious injuries, is suspected to be an act of revenge for his cooperation with the police against a local criminal gang.
Victim Lured Out Under False Pretence
The victim, identified as Abdul Naeem (34), a resident of Surajpol under the Kaithunipol police station area, was at home when he received a call from a neighbour and friend, Sharif. Sharif, along with his brothers Saddam and Shahnawaz, also residents of Surajpol, asked Naeem to meet them on the pretext of a discussion.
Trusting his neighbour, Naeem left his home on his motorcycle and arrived at the spot. As soon as he dismounted his bike, the three accused brothers opened fire on him. They shot him thrice before fleeing the scene. Naeem sustained bullet wounds in his stomach and thigh.
Police Investigation Points to Old Grudge
The injured man was quickly rushed to MBS Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. In his statement to the police, Naeem claimed that the attack stemmed from an old enmity. He alleged that he had previously provided information to the police related to the activities of the Adil Mirza gang, which had angered the accused brothers.
Kaithunipol Station House Officer (SHO) Amresh confirmed that the preliminary investigation indicates the attackers and the victim are neighbours. A case has been registered against the identified accused—Saddam, Shahnawaz, and Sharif. However, SHO Amresh told TOI that while this tip-off angle is being probed, the exact motive behind the firing is yet to be fully ascertained.
Manhunt Launched, Accused Still at Large
As of now, none of the accused brothers have been traced or arrested. The police have formed special teams and are conducting raids at possible hideouts to nab the attackers. "Efforts are on and the accused will be arrested soon," assured SHO Amresh. The police are investigating all angles to understand the complete sequence of events and the precise reason for the brutal daylight attack.
The incident has sent ripples of fear through the Surajpol locality, raising concerns about neighbourhood disputes turning violent. The police action in the coming days will be crucial in restoring a sense of security and ensuring justice for the victim.
