Major Drug Bust in Kurukshetra: Police Nab Driver with 2.11 Kg Opium
Kurukshetra district police have scored a significant victory against drug trafficking networks. In a well-coordinated operation, officers arrested a man from Punjab and confiscated a substantial quantity of opium from his vehicle.
Swift Action Based on Intelligence
Acting on specific directions from Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Aggarwal, a specialized crime investigation team sprang into action. The CIA Ladwa unit received crucial information about suspicious activities along National Highway 152.
Police officials had positioned themselves strategically near Usmanpur village when they obtained a vital tip-off. The intelligence pointed toward Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Chhiniwal village in Barnala district of Punjab.
The Interception and Recovery
Authorities learned that Singh worked regularly as a canter driver. His routes frequently took him to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Investigators suspected he was purchasing opium at lower prices in these states before transporting it back to Punjab.
The police team, led by PSI Jasbir Singh, established a checkpoint near Gumthala Garhu Chowki. They maintained careful surveillance on the highway. Before long, they spotted the suspect vehicle approaching - a canter bearing registration number PB 13BS 9352.
Officers immediately intercepted the vehicle and questioned the driver. The man identified himself as Sukhdev Singh. Following proper legal protocols, police conducted a thorough search of the canter in the presence of a gazetted officer.
During this search, authorities made the crucial discovery. They recovered 2.11 kilograms of opium from Singh's possession. The quantity represents a significant seizure that could have reached numerous consumers.
Legal Proceedings Begin
Police promptly registered a case against Sukhdev Singh under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The case was filed at Pehowa Sadar police station, marking the formal beginning of legal proceedings.
Following his arrest, authorities produced Singh before the court on Friday. The court examined the case details and granted police six days of remand for further investigation. This remand period will allow investigators to thoroughly probe forward and backward linkages in the drug trafficking network.
The police spokesperson emphasized that this operation demonstrates their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. The successful bust resulted from coordinated efforts between intelligence gathering and field execution.
This arrest sends a strong message to drug traffickers operating in the area. Kurukshetra police have shown they will actively pursue and intercept illegal drug transportation through their jurisdiction.
