A special sub inspector faced arrest and judicial remand on Saturday in Madurai. The officer allegedly tried to video-record a woman police colleague using a toilet with his mobile phone. This disturbing incident occurred at a police outpost in Ramanathapuram district.

Incident Unfolds During Patrol Duty

The accused, identified as Muthupandi, served as an SSI attached to Paramakudi town police. On Friday, he was on regular patrol duty near the Maninagar police outpost. Meanwhile, a woman officer went to use the toilet facilities at the same outpost.

Inside the toilet, she discovered a mobile phone. Sensing something amiss, she immediately retrieved the device. The woman officer then presented the phone to a senior police official without delay. She also lodged a formal complaint regarding the suspicious find.

Investigation Leads to Swift Arrest

Police launched a prompt investigation into the complaint. They examined the mobile phone found in the toilet. Their inquiries revealed that the device belonged to SSI Muthupandi.

Authorities allege that Muthupandi had placed the phone in the toilet to secretly film the woman officer. Based on this evidence, Paramakudi town police registered a case against him. The SSI was subsequently arrested on Saturday.

Following his arrest, the court remanded Muthupandi to judicial custody. This action underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the allegation. The case highlights concerns about misconduct within police ranks.

Local residents expressed shock over the incident. Many called for strict action against the accused officer. The police department has assured a thorough probe into the matter.
