In a significant crackdown on crime, the Bapatla district police launched a large-scale cordon and search operation in areas under the Chirala 2 Town Police Station limits. The early morning raid led to the discovery of suspected stolen vehicles, materials for making illegal alcohol, and other illicit activities.
Massive Police Mobilization in Early Hours
The operation was executed on the direct orders of District Superintendent of Police Shri B. Umamaheshwar, IPS. It took place in the early hours of Wednesday, from 5 am to 9 am. The police teams focused their search on three key localities: Ramnagar New Colony, Mogili Rangayya Colony, and Adinarayanapuram.
Leading the operation was Chirala DSP M.D. Moin. A formidable force of approximately 150 police personnel was mobilized for this action. The team included officers from the Chirala Sub-Division, drawing staff from multiple police stations:
- Chirala 1 Town
- Chirala 2 Town
- Chirala Rural
- Inkollu
- Chinnaganjam
- Karamchedu
Personnel from the CCS (City Crime Station) also participated in the intensive search.
Substantial Haul of Illegal Items Seized
The thorough combing operation yielded significant results, uncovering a range of illegal materials and activities. The police made two major seizures during the search:
First, a total of 16 vehicles were confiscated after they were found to be operating without proper documentation. This haul included 14 two-wheelers and 2 auto-rickshaws, all suspected of being used for or involved in unlawful activities.
Second, and perhaps more startling, was the discovery of illicit liquor manufacturing materials. The police team detected nearly 100 litres of jaggery that had been hidden in pits dug underground. This stock was allegedly intended for the production of illegal country liquor, locally known as Natu Sara. Following the discovery, the police destroyed the entire stock on the spot.
Police Leadership Stresses Public Cooperation
Speaking about the operation's objectives, DSP Md Moin clarified that the cordon and search had multiple aims. The primary goals were to identify criminals active in the area, prevent the brewing of illicit liquor, and curb the sale and consumption of marijuana and other intoxicants. He emphasized the crucial role of public cooperation and awareness in eradicating such anti-social practices from the community.
District SP B Umamaheshwar issued a stern warning, stating that such intensive operations would continue across the entire district to closely monitor the movement of criminal elements. He promised strict legal action against anyone involved in illegal activities and specifically advised the youth to steer clear of intoxicants.
He also made a public appeal, urging citizens to report any illegal activities they witness. People can contact the police directly or use the emergency number 112. The SP assured that the identity of informers would be kept confidential, encouraging more people to come forward and help the police maintain law and order.
