Chennai police arrested a 35-year-old man on Tuesday for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl on April 23. The incident came to light when the victim's mother, an IT professional, filed a complaint after learning about the abuse from her daughter on Sunday.
Details of the Incident
The abuse occurred when the child was visiting her grandmother's house for summer holidays. According to police, the accused's wife asked the girl to fetch a mobile phone from the first floor of their residence. When the child entered the house, the accused, identified as D Dinesh, also known as Paambu Dinesh, sexually assaulted her, an officer said.
Legal Action Taken
Based on the complaint, the Royapuram all-women police station registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Dinesh was arrested on Tuesday, produced before a magistrate, and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday. Police said further investigation is underway.
