Man caught stealing from gurdwara golak in Moga

Bathinda: A man was caught while allegedly attempting to steal money from the ‘golak’ of a gurdwara at Dharamkot town in Moga district on Tuesday. When a devotee raised the alarm, the youth was caught by members of the gurdwara committee. The police said tobacco, which is prohibited in Sikhism, had also been seized from the youth.

Police said the gurdwara’s granthi, Baldev Singh, had gone out at 8am by locking the main hall of the gurdwara. After the granthi had left, the youth entered the main hall of the Gurdwara Dharam Ki Pauri in Chugga Basti of Dharamkot. He reached near the Sukh Asan (where the sacred saroop is placed) by breaking the glass shield and tried to steal money from the golak. A woman spotted the youth and raised the alarm.

Gurdwara managing committee president Balwinder Singh with others reached the spot and caught the youth, and looked into the CCTV where the incident was captured. The matter was reported to the police. Dharamkot DSP Sukhwinder Singh said the youth had been rounded up. During the initial investigation, it has come out that he entered the gurdwara to steal money, the DSP added.
