Tragic Train Accident at Ratlam Railway Station Claims Life
A horrific accident at Ratlam railway station resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man who slipped while trying to board a moving train. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred on Friday around 2:30 PM on platform number 4, sending shockwaves through the station.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The victim, identified as Daud, originally hailed from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh but was currently residing in Thane, Maharashtra. According to GRP station in-charge Sohanlal Patidar, Daud was present on the platform before the arrival of the Golden Temple Mail Express. As the train began to depart after a brief stop, Daud attempted to board it.
During this attempt, his foot slipped, causing him to become trapped between the platform and the moving train. He was subsequently dragged along and pulled under the wheels, leading to his body being severed into two parts on the spot. The train continued moving before railway staff and police could retrieve the body from the tracks, causing panic among passengers and bystanders on the platform.
Investigation and Identification Process
Police officials reported that a bag found at the accident scene played a crucial role in establishing the victim's identity. An Aadhaar card and a mobile phone recovered from the bag helped confirm Daud's identity and allowed authorities to notify his family members. However, GRP officials noted that no train ticket was found during the search of his belongings, raising questions about whether he was an authorized passenger.
The victim's brother traveled to Ratlam and arrived on Saturday morning to claim the body. After a postmortem examination conducted at the local medical college, the remains were handed over to the family for final rites.
Safety Concerns and Aftermath
This tragic incident highlights significant safety concerns at railway stations, particularly regarding boarding moving trains. The availability of CCTV footage has provided crucial evidence for the investigation, but it also serves as a grim reminder of the dangers associated with such attempts.
Railway authorities and police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, including why Daud attempted to board a moving train and whether any safety protocols were violated. The incident has sparked discussions about platform safety measures and passenger awareness campaigns to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
