Man Flees Surat Court to Inform Family, Arrested Next Day

A Bardoli resident briefly managed to escape from the Surat district and sessions court on Thursday before being arrested on Friday. Chirag Parekh was in court in connection with a cheque bounce case. After his plea for relief was rejected and a jail warrant was issued, he was being taken into custody for transfer to Lajpore jail.

As arrangements were being made by the Umra police prisoner escort team, constable Naresh Patel was stationed on court duty. While Parekh was waiting near a lift on the fourth floor, he allegedly pushed the constable as the lift doors opened and fled. Patel tried to chase him via the staircase but fell during the pursuit. By the time he reached the ground floor, Parekh had left the court premises.

Police launched a search and registered a case at Umra police station under relevant provisions of the BNS. During questioning, Parekh told police that he had gone home to inform his wife and family members after learning that he would be sent to jail following the court's decision.
