Man Shot in Patna Drug Clash, Has Criminal Past

A young man was critically injured after being shot by assailants early on Saturday morning in Moldiyar Tola under the Mokama police station area in Patna district. The victim, identified as Karu Kumar alias Niket Kumar, son of Arvind Singh, was rushed to PMCH, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Incident Details

According to the police, the incident occurred around 4:30 am when a group of young men, including the victim, were consuming drugs. An argument broke out among them, which quickly escalated into a scuffle, leading to gunfire. Karu was shot multiple times during the clash.

Local sources and initial investigations suggest he sustained two bullet injuries — one in the stomach and another that pierced his ear. His sister admitted him to the local hospital, from where he was referred to Patna for better treatment.

Police Response

Mokama police station in charge Kunal Kumar confirmed that the victim’s family had already taken him to the hospital by the time police reached the spot. He stated that the exact number and nature of injuries would be confirmed only after receiving the official medical report.

Kumar added, “The victim returned from Delhi just four days prior to the incident in a murder case. He had a criminal history, including a murder case of 2024 in Teghra police station, Begusarai, and two Arms Act cases, extortion and prohibition case lodged against him in Mokama. Karu’s sister informed the police that he went to meet his friends and she accused them in the FIR, hinting at a possible old rivalry behind the attack. Police have registered a case and launched raids to nab the accused. Further investigation is underway. Statement of the victim will be recorded once he is stable.”
