A mathematics teacher employed at several coaching centres in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar was arrested for allegedly conducting reconnaissance of a businessman who received extortion calls demanding Rs 10 crore from the Hari Boxer–Lawrence Bishnoi gang, officials said on Thursday.
Accused Identified as Amit Bishnoi
The accused was identified as Amit Bishnoi (35), who worked as a mathematics faculty member at various coaching institutes in Mukherjee Nagar, northwest Delhi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Praveen Tripathi stated that the investigation was initiated after a businessman received a call from a foreign number threatening him with dire consequences if he refused to pay Rs 10 crore.
Extortion Call Details
The caller, identifying himself as Hari Boxer, threatened to kill the businessman and his children if the money was not paid within a week. He also shared a video of the victim's office and threatened to blow it up, according to the DCP. Based on technical surveillance and investigation, Bishnoi was arrested.
Background of the Accused
Tripathi said Bishnoi, a B.Tech graduate from Faridabad, Haryana, had prepared for the UPSC and SSC examinations in Mukherjee Nagar. Since 2018, he had been working as a mathematics faculty member at various coaching centres in the area. He allegedly became acquainted with Lawrence Bishnoi through a mutual friend in Haryana in 2014. Later, he established contact with Boxer, who tasked him with gathering information about the victim's family and business and sharing it with him.
