In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bengaluru police have seized a large consignment of MDMA and hydro ganja valued at approximately Rs 20 crore. The operation, carried out by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), led to the arrest of two individuals suspected to be key players in the city's illicit drug network.
Details of the Seizure
The contraband was recovered during a raid conducted in the southern part of Bengaluru. According to police officials, the seized drugs include 5 kilograms of MDMA and 10 kilograms of hydro ganja. The street value of these narcotics is estimated to be around Rs 20 crore, making it one of the largest drug busts in the city this year.
Arrests and Investigation
The two accused have been identified as residents of Bengaluru and are believed to have been supplying drugs to various parts of the city. They were taken into custody after a tip-off led the police to their hideout. Preliminary investigations suggest that the drugs were sourced from outside the state and were being distributed through a well-organized network.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are interrogating the suspects to uncover further links. The operation is part of a broader effort by the Bengaluru police to curb the rising menace of drug abuse among the youth.
Growing Concern Over Drug Trafficking
This seizure comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of synthetic drugs in Bengaluru. MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, is a popular party drug, while hydro ganja is a potent form of cannabis. The availability of such substances has been linked to an increase in addiction and related crimes.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling. They have also emphasized the need for community involvement in tackling drug abuse. The police have vowed to continue their crackdown and dismantle drug networks operating in the city.
