Incident Overview
A cyclist and a shopkeeper sustained injuries in Ludhiana on Friday after a speeding car driven by a minor rammed into them. The accident occurred on Neela Jhanda Road around 8 pm, according to reports.
How the Incident Unfolded
The car owner, identified as Manu, had taken his vehicle to a washing centre on Neela Jhanda Road. After the car was washed, the centre owner handed the keys to two minors, approximately 16 years old, instructing them to park the vehicle. Instead, the two boys decided to take the car for a drive through the market.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, which was reportedly traveling at about 100 km per hour. The car struck a cyclist and a nearby shopkeeper. Both victims sustained injuries in the mishap. The entire sequence was captured on a CCTV camera.
Victims' Accounts
Ajay (21), the injured cyclist, said, “I was returning home from work on a bicycle. As I was crossing the road, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction hit me. The impact of the collision was so strong that I was flung into the air. I suffered serious injuries on my waist and arms.”
Khurshid Alam (46), the other victim, said, “I live on Tibba Road and my shop is on Neela Jhanda Road. The speeding car first hit a cyclist before ramming into me. I suffered a head injury and was administered three to five stitches.”
Legal and Safety Implications
The incident highlights the dangers of minors operating vehicles without proper licenses or supervision. The police are likely to investigate the role of the car wash centre owner in handing over the keys. No arrests have been reported yet.
